Ahoy, cruise-mates!
Here's the story on our next cruise adventure. It's the ever-popular Panama Canal, with more varied port-calls this time and an improved ambiance on one of the world's best lines.
Tanforan and I have separately done considerable research on OCEANIA, the cruise-line of choice, and they get rave reviews all around. Excellent food, superb service and--a major plus--a smaller ship. The Regatta carries fewer than 700 passengers, served by almost 500 crew personnel.
The size means far less crowding and much easier movement on-and-off the ship. Overall, a more personal experience. It's an upscale but casual experience (No tuxedos required! "Smart casual" is the cue for dinner) with ultimate dining flexibility regarding where and when. No surcharges for different dining rooms and none of the nickel-and-dime additional charges that have become the hallmarks of far too many cruise ships.
In fact, I'm told by well-travelled friends who just returned from an Oceania cruise that adult beverages, including wine in the dining room, are about half the price other lines are charging! Is Oceania more expensive than Princess? Yes. However, you aren't being constantly charged--or over-charged--for "extras". Also, this cruise is sixteen days, start-to-finish.
The air schedules are easy: fly to Miami... sail for sixteen days... end in Los Angeles... fly home.
Here's the itinerary:
Miami to Key West... a couple of relaxing days at sea... Cartagena, Colombia... thru the Canal... Puntarenas, Costa Rica... Puerto Chiapas, Mexico... Huatulco, Mexico... Acapulco and Cabo San Lucas... and on to Los Angeles.
We sail out of Miami on January 12... home on January 28.
THE OCEANIA "REGATTA" promises the kind of elegant cruise experience that's largely been lost by the larger ships; something worth the wait!
